I know what I passed through just to get Chartered
So when a friend of mine, Jude told me about IFRS and
the fact that I needed in-depth knowledge, I just waved it off,
‘I cannot come and kill myself
Years back, I had a serious issue with preparing the company’s
financial statements because my superior expressly told me to implement the IFRS
So I quickly called my friend to fix it up for me.
Jude came to my rescue but billed me for this service.
Actually, I was quite reluctant to engage in anything that
had to do with another round of studying
But when I finally decided to equip myself with the knowledge of IFRS,
I was amazed at my discovery
The knowledge of IFRS helped me set a standard for preparing financial statements. So whether or not
I’m instructed to implement it,
I already have a platform that guides me in my job
And ever since I’ve had this knowledge, I’ve earned a lot
of respect from my superiors because nothing within
the radar of my job description passes me unnoticed, as
there is a standard and a principle that guides me in
performing my duty as a Chartered Accountant.
I’ve been Chartered for 22 years now and I can tell for sure that
being Chartered is important, but having the knowledge of IFRS is importanter
It made me different,
it made me consistent,
it helped me set the standard for my work
And when we implemented it,
it gave credibility to my company
AND
more credibility to me too.
P.S: The world is already full of geniuses, so striving to be a genius is almost like being one of them. If you want to be outstanding, be different.
