Last week, I called one of the leading ICAN tuition providers in Lagos
and I was shocked when the lady I spoke with said that their lecture
time is usually from 8am – 7pm Saturday & Sunday (approximately
10 hours daily excluding the break time). I wonder how on earth
students can fully understand everything that the lecturer is teaching
when our brains are not machines. Moreover, most ICAN students are
working class students.
So, I was not surprised when a student told me yesterday that attending
physical classes is very stressful and expensive.
He went further and said that he usually wake up 4am every Monday to
Friday to his office and he’s usually very tired when he get home
late at night. Then during the weekend, he spends ten hours in the classroom.
This implies that he did not even have time to revise what he has learned in the class.
I felt sorry for him because after attending weekend lectures he will definitely go to
work on Monday. Most likely, it will affect his productive level when he resumes
because he didn’t rest over the weekend and also he didn’t spend time with his loved
ones which is very important because everyone needs to balance work, study, and social life.
In fact, there are other constraints he mentioned that I don’t want to talk about here.
However, I am very happy for him because all his challenges can be overcomed with
