After studying for 4 hours at a stretch then you noticed
that you cannot really remember 20% of all you have just learn……
or
You went for all night reading and could not remember most of
what you read the next day.
These are frustrating experiences that professional students come across.
Have you tried the 33-minute rule?
This rule will help you to study at your peak and able to recall 80% of what you have learnt.
The rule actually requires that you should only study
for 33 minutes and 33 seconds at a stretch because that is when
you get to the peak when assimilating.
The 33 minutes rule states that;
• Turn off all notifications and anything that could distract you, be it Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and whatever.
• Set a timer for 33 minutes and 33 seconds.
• Start studying
• When it is 33 minutes and 33 seconds, take a break for 5 minutes.
• During the 5 minutes break, close your eyes firmly and picture what you have just learnt, try to repeat them by saying what you have learnt.
• Reset the timer for another 33 minutes and 33 seconds and continue the process.
Why does the 33 minutes rule work?
It’s incredibly easy, but for me the results have been amazing.
I’ve been thinking about why it works so well and here’s what I’ve come up with:
Focusing on what you are studying for 33 minutes helps you
to concentrate and do better.
It also works well because sometimes, it is difficult to start the studying process,
but because you only ‘commit’ yourself for 33 minutes and 33 seconds,
it makes it so easy to start.
It’s less of a hurdle to start on something you’ve been postponing that way.
Research has shown that studying in time blocks with pauses in between
is far more effective than trying to stay concentrated for hours in a row.
NOTE: turning off the distractions is really important,
otherwise you will disrupt your concentration.
P.S You cannot apply this 33 minutes rule while learning in a physical class,
Video Lectures is the best option for this…. While make your study process difficult,
when you can study with ease?
