As parents as much as we love our child and
we love to get involved in their everyday activity so
they can have a better life.
It is important not to micro manage our children so
they can be self motivate as they grow older.
In order to achieve this, you need to set procedures in
place that will make them act and be motivated on their own
In the first part of this article, I showed you how you
can applythe principle of expectation and consequencesto
make your child do their home working
without you stressing over it.
Let me quickly go over the other approach my sister addedthat
is helping herchildren to get their homework
done without her supervision.
My sister’s twins were very terrible at getting
their home done which really affected their grades at
the end of the termbut they are getting
better grades now through this other approach
Apart from the principle of
expectation and consequences, here is another thing my sister did:
My sister asked the twins teachers if she could give them
a 5-minute phone call once every two months to
check on their progress.
They agreed. She also informed the twins about
the arrangement. They discussed what feedback from
the teachers would warrant consequences
andwhat kind of consequences.
They agreed that if two or more teachers complained that
theyhaven’t been submitting their homework on
time,then she would stop them from watching TV and
they would have to scrub a certain place in the house or
they will be denied of weekly allowance
These privileges will only be restored when the feedback improves.
With this added approach they knew they
had to do better.
With this approach, you won’t need to micromanage your children
You might be tempted to think that your children
will only complete their homework under your supervision.
But
It is possible for them to take full ownership of
their homework, such that you don’t need to supervise them at all.
The pre-agreed consequences will encourage your
children to be more responsible. And you won’t
have to endure daily homework battles anymore!
PS: It very important to always introduce new approach and steps to your children education so they can have a better and more structured education. Also it also important to introduce to your children new educational material that will make learning easier and faster for them
